Afterglow Echo - Prototype_02 Is alive!
Afterglow Echo
A turn-based tactical RPG where timed reactions, stance changes, action points, and fragment passives shape every encounter.
You awaken without your memories in the Luminous Glass Marshes.
Scattered throughout the marsh are Memory Fragments—remnants carrying abilities and impressions from lives that may not have belonged to you. The fragments you equip determine how you fight. The fragments you preserve, abandon, or sell gradually shape who you become.
Play Prototype_02
Prototype_02 is playable directly in your browser and is designed for fullscreen play.
This release introduces a substantially improved opening, redesigned fragment selection, animated enemy attacks and skills, contextual tutorials, revised combat systems, offensive and defensive QTEs, and extensive presentation improvements.
The project remains in active development. Some audio, VFX, balancing, and content are still incomplete. This prototype is being shared to gather player feedback.
Features
Memory Fragments
Choose fragments with distinct attacks, skills, and passive effects. Combine their abilities to build a different combat identity during each run.
Tactical grid combat
Fight enemy formations across a 1×8 battlefield. Manage positioning, action points, stances, and timing while facing enemies that protect, heal, empower, and coordinate with one another.
Offensive and defensive QTEs
Timed interactions influence attacks, defensive reactions, fragment passives, and Bloodrush effects. Success depends on reading the encounter—not simply selecting an action.
Stability
Health can be restored. Stability is far more difficult to recover. Falling reduces your maximum Stability, and losing it completely ends the run—not because your body died, but because your identity broke.
Risk and consequence
Explore dangerous locations, negotiate with merchants, seek shelter, and decide when a possible reward is worth the danger. Consequences accumulate throughout the run.
Persistent discovery
Each life reveals more about the world, its inhabitants, and the person you may once have been.
VELA
Your AI companion is the only consistent voice accompanying you through the marsh. She has answers. She is not giving you all of them.
Feedback wanted
After playing, I would especially like feedback on:
- The first-combat tutorial.
- Stances and action-point clarity.
- Offensive and defensive QTE timing.
- Memory Fragment upgrade choices.
- Pre-fight risk-and-reward information.
- Interface behavior at different resolutions.
Follow the project for development updates and the upcoming Prototype_03.

Good game. As a cRPG fan, I aprreciate original setting and some interesting mechanical ideas.
Thx a lot! It is heartwarming to hear this! Thx.
Text is too small to read. No idea what's going on.
I can move right, then click the red button and choose target.
Difficult QTE. Any color I stop on is a resisted attack. I think. Repeat a few times, then die.
Thanks for the replay!
Well green gives you 25% boost to attack or defense, Purple gives you 50% boost to your attack or defense. If missed you lose the chance to do damage or defend. But I can see that it can be very confusing to new players, will aim to make it more logical and easier to follow at start. With a curve progression.
Thanks a lot! This is our first ever feedback we receive on Itch.
